2-1-1 and Infant Mortality

2-1-1 refers mothers to agencies and programs that keep them and their infants safe and healthy.

FACT: Seventy percent of infant mortality cases in the United States occur in the first 28 days, which means maternal care and well-being is key.1

2-1-1 can prevent infant mortality by referring early mothers and mothers-to-be to food banks, shelters and legal aid, which will keep them healthy and safe.

FACT: 2-1-1 referred pregnant callers an estimated 6,761 times to its top 25 philanthropic organizations that support women of childbearing age.2

These organizations include smoking cessation programs, healthy eating programs, and general social support programs, among a host of others, that help mothers take care of themselves and their infant.
